Lecturer Minhyeok Lee, Mr. Gyeonghun Yoo (M1), and Professor Yuji Suzuki received the Scientific Contribution Award (AY2023) from The Heat Transfer Society of Japan on May 30th, 2024. This Award is presented to a researcher and collaborators for independently conducting exemplary research in the field of heat transfer.

Research title: Development of the high-temperature and high-efficiency thermoelectric power generation system directly heated by catalytic combustion

In this research, we proposed a completely novel high-power-density thermoelectric power generation system by integrating thermoelectric elements with a catalytic combustor. We established a design method for the element through numerical analysis and demonstrated through combustion experiments using prototype elements that heat loss is suppressed by the convection effect, achieving high power density. We aim to enhance the performance of thermoelectric elements further, promote their integration, combining them with waste heat recovery thermoelectric modules, and utilizing clean fuels. Through these efforts, our goal is to develop high-power, low-environmental-impact power generation systems.
