The research achievements of the Shiomi・Kodama・Asano Laboratory have been featured in the Faculty of Engineering / Graduate School of Engineering press release.

Professor Junichiro Shiomi from the University of Tokyo’s Graduate School of Engineering, Associate Professor Masaki Kudo from Tokyo Metropolitan College of Industrial Technology, Professor Tsuguyuki Saito from the Graduate School of Agricultural and Life Sciences at the University of Tokyo, along with Professors Fredrik Lundell and Daniel Söderberg from the Royal Institute of Technology in Sweden, have achieved a biomaterial derived from woody biomass with over 100 times the thermal conductivity of paper. This material, created by orienting cellulose nanofibers (CNF), obtained from woody biomass, at the molecular scale using a fluid process and solidifying with acid, exhibits over five times the thermal conductivity of advanced woody biomass materials like cellulose nanopapers and over 100 times that of traditional woody biomass materials such as paper.
